THE TEFL CERTIFICATE COURSE
The course is essentially practical and is assessed continuously.
In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and methods of teaching. The afternoon/evening consists of lesson preparation, lesson observation and teaching practice, either in one-to one or group sessions.
The course is, by nature, very intensive.
THE TEFL COURSE IS DIVIDED IN FIVE AREAS
1) Methodology: (book provided)
Classroom Management
This topic includes classroom arrangement, managing, resource materials, maintaining discipline, giving instructions, the role of the student and teacher, etc.
Teaching skills
This is a very practical element of the course aimed at building the candidates skills in areas such as teaching grammar, vocabulary, business English, creating own materials, correction skills, etc.
2) Language awareness: (book provided)
Grammar
This section aims to consolidate the trainees’ knowledge of grammar and provides practical ideas as to how it can be taught.
Phonology (book provided)
Focuses on areas such as stress, intonation, rhythm and the International Phonetic Alphabet.
3) Unknown Language
Trainees are put in the position of language students and will be taught an unknown foreign language. This gives a chance to view lessons as a student and note techniques used by the teacher when teaching beginners.
4) Teaching Practice
The most practical and fundamental area of any TEFL/TESOL course and the main reason why online and distance learning programs do not suffice.
During the course trainees teach real non-mother tongue students of English and must put into practice the skills learnt on the course.
Our trainees start Teaching Observation in the first week and start their Teaching Practice from the second week, teaching at least 6 full length classes during the course. Teaching Practices are observed by a Senior Teacher and after each class trainees have a feedback session with their Observer.
5) Student’s Portfolio:
During the course students are required to develop a portfolio.
The Portfolio provides students in the TEFL course with the opportunity to demonstrate development as a TESL professional while fulfilling the programme’s requirements. With advisor guidance, the trainee selects and produces representative samples of his/her achievements, reflecting the achieved range of knowledge and growth as an ESL/EFL professional.

TEFL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
English Skills for mother tongue speakers
As far as entrance requirements are concerned, if you are to be a teacher of English, a high standard of both spoken and written English is demanded. By this we mean your use of English, not necessarily your knowledge of grammatical terminology: you will be given an introduction to language awareness on the course itself.
Criteria for Admitting Non-Native Speakers
Trainees must be capable of successfully handling a rigorous academic training and practice teaching program, conducted entirely in English, at a professional level and on par with native speakers, who will be speaking together in typical rapid, colloquial speech.
